The Transformation of the Ugly Duckling

Once upon a time, there was a mother duck. She sat on her eggs for a long time. At last, five little yellow ducklings came out.

But the last egg was very big. When it opened, out came a big, grey duckling. He didn't look like his brothers and sisters. He was very sad.

The duckling went to a farm. The cat and the hen there were not kind to him. He went to a pond. The birds there were not kind to him either. Winter came. The duckling was very cold and hungry.

Then spring came. The duckling saw some beautiful white swans on the pond. He wanted to talk to them, but he was afraid. "They are so beautiful. They won't like me," he thought.

He went to the water. The duckling looked down, and to his surprise, he saw that he was a beautiful white swan too!
